Once every two weeks, I disappear.
No social interactions. No endless notifications. No replying to messages immediately. Just silence, stillness, and intentional solitude.
I call it my day off the internet.
This is not something I do lightly. In a world that expects you to be available at all times. to reply quickly, to post regularly, to stay visible, choosing to step away feels like a small act of rebellion. But it is also a necessity. My brain needs it. My energy needs it. My soul, honestly, needs it more than I sometimes admit.
And recently, I decided to spend one of those days at Behere.
Why Behere Was on My List
This place had been on my list for a very long time because of how exclusive and private it seemed online, and honestly, it lived up to the anticipation.
I had seen pictures. I had read the descriptions. I had noticed how people spoke about it, not just as a place to stay, but as a place to reset. That kind of reputation does not come easily. It comes from offering something that most hotels do not: true quiet, true privacy, and a space that feels like it was designed for people who need to slow down.
So when I finally booked, I was already curious. But curiosity is different from experience. And experience is what Behere gave me.
The Moment I Arrived
The moment I settled in, my body relaxed.
The kind where your shoulders drop a little, your breathing slows, and your mind stops racing for the first time in hours. That kind of relaxation does not happen by accident. It happens when a space is designed to make you feel safe, still, and free from pressure.
Behere did that for me.
I spent the day doing the things that genuinely make me happy: journaling, dancing around the room, reading, watching Netflix, colouring, sitting in silence, and simply existing without pressure.
Nothing was scheduled. Nothing was forced. I did not have to perform. I did not have to explain myself. I did not have to be anywhere else. I was allowed to just be.
It felt soft. Slow. Calm.
Those three words are not just descriptions. They are feelings. And that is exactly what I needed.
The restaurant happened to be out of service during my stay, so all meals were sent directly to my room instead. Normally, that might have annoyed me, but somehow it added to the quietness of the experience.
For me, that turned into a bonus. It made the solitude feel even more intentional. It kept me in the room, in the calm, in the stillness. And that was exactly what I wanted.
Sitting by the Pool During Sunset
One of my favourite moments was sitting by the pool during sunset. Everything looked golden and peaceful in that way that makes you temporarily forget real life exists.
There is a particular kind of beauty that only shows up at sunset. The light changes. The air shifts. The whole world feels softer, quieter, and more forgiving. Sitting by the pool, watching that happen, I felt like I was outside of time for a few minutes. Not in a dramatic way. Just in a quiet, gentle way that made me feel like I was allowed to pause.
That moment stayed with me. Not because it was huge. But because it was real.
The Reading Nook That Won Me Over
But the reading nook?
That space completely won me over.
It was cosy, warm, intimate, and exactly the kind of corner I naturally gravitate toward. There is something about a good reading space that makes you want to stay longer. It does not shout. It does not demand attention. It just offers comfort, and you respond to it.
The nook at Behere felt like that. It was not large. It was not fancy. But it was perfectly put together in a way that made reading feel like the most natural thing to do. I sat there for a while, opened a book, and let the hours pass without checking my phone. That kind of focus is rare for me, and Behere made it possible.
Something important to note: you cannot access the property without a reservation. Security already had my details before I arrived because I booked ahead, and they are very intentional about maintaining privacy for in-house guests.
That level of intentionality matters. It means the place is not open to everyone. It means guests are protected.
The Room and the Price
I stayed in the Maputo Room, which costs ₦165,000 per night including breakfast. Additional meals start from about ₦20,000 per plate.
Would I go back?
Absolutely.
Behere officially earned a spot on my list of places to retreat to when I need quiet.
This is not the kind of place you visit for a loud party or a big event. It is the kind of place you visit when you need to disappear for a while. When you need to step away from the internet, from the noise, from the pressure. When you need to remember that stillness is allowed.
Is this something you would enjoy too?
If you value quiet, privacy, and spaces that make you feel like you can just exist without performing, then yes. This is for you.
Behere is not just a hotel. It is a retreat. And sometimes, that is exactly what you need.
