What do you do when life has been a little too loud?

Personally, I go looking for joy.

The easy kind, the kind that lets your shoulders drop a little, your breath slow down, and your mind stop running for a few minutes. Sometimes that joy shows up as a good meal, a long walk, or a conversation with someone who makes everything feel lighter. And sometimes, it shows up as a place you didn’t even plan to visit.

This particular day, I was with a friend, and somehow we ended up at Monoliza. It was one of those plans that did not begin with a grand idea, but it turned into one of the very fun evenings. The kind that reminds you how easy it is to feel light again when you are in the right place, with the right company, and enough room to simply enjoy yourself.

At first, I only wanted to try bicycle riding. That was the original plan. Nothing more, nothing less. I thought we’d ride for a bit, laugh a little, maybe take a few photos, and head home. Simple. Easy. Low effort.

But the moment we stepped in properly, it became clear that Monoliza had far more going on than I had expected.

I  found what felt like a whole mini amusement world. There was a skating rink, a swimming pool, an amusement park, a five-aside football court, a padel court, a kiddies playground, bus riding, and enough activities to keep you entertained for hours without even trying too hard.

Honestly, it was one of those moments where you pause and think, “Wait, there’s this much here?”

So naturally, we started moving from one thing to the next.

And somehow, the whole experience felt playful in a way that was easy to enjoy. There was something about the place that made it hard to stay still for too long.

We tried the bicycle riding first, which was the original plan anyway. It was simple, light, and a little nostalgic. There’s something fun about riding a bike when you’re not actually trying to get anywhere. You’re just moving, feeling the air, and enjoying the motion. It’s one of those activities that feels like a reset for your mood.

After that, we drifted toward the skating rink. I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did. There’s a certain kind of joy in moving on wheels, even if you’re not perfectly balanced. It’s playful, a little silly, and absolutely worth it if you’re with someone who laughs when you wobble.

Then we checked out the amusement park rides. They weren’t too intense, but they were fun. We also walked past the five-aside football court and the padel court, watched a few people playing, and imagined how much fun it would be to try someday. There’s always something energising about watching people move, play, and enjoy themselves. It makes you want to join in, even if you’re just standing on the side.

The kiddies playground was lively, with children running around, climbing, and laughing. It added a certain warmth to the whole space. You could feel the energy of people actually enjoying themselves, not just passing through.

The Price and What It Covers

The amusement park access fee was the most affordable option at ₦2,500, and that gave access to all the adult rides. After that, everything else started feeling like a proper excuse to spend a little more and enjoy the day fully. The kind of spending that feels less like waste and more like a choice to make a memory.

For ₦2,500, you get in and can enjoy the adult rides without worrying about extra charges per ride. That’s a solid entry point for something that gives you so much movement, fun, and variety. And once you’re in, it’s easy to see why people end up staying longer than they planned. There’s just enough here to make you want to try a bit more.

Other activities like skating, swimming, football, padel, and bus riding may have separate fees, but they’re all reasonable for the kind of experience you get. It’s the kind of place where you can spend a little and still feel like you got your worth.

And honestly, the sunset alone was worth staying for.

I remember standing there for a few minutes, watching the sky change colour while people moved around, kids playing, friends chatting, and the whole place feeling alive in that easy, unforced way. It was perfect.
