My favourite New Year tradition has always been catching up with my friends to unpack the previous year. The highs, the chaos, the lessons, the moments we are still trying to understand, and of course, the hopeful conversations about the new year ahead. It is one of those simple things that always feels meaningful to me. There is something comforting about sitting across from people who know your story well enough to laugh at the chaos with you, but also care enough to sit with the weight of it.
These days, I let people choose the places we go to. I have entered that phase where I simply return to places I already know and love. Safe choices. Familiar spaces. Minimal surprises. It is not even that I do not enjoy trying new places anymore. I do. But there is a certain peace that comes with knowing what to expect. No awkward guesswork. Just comfort, ease, and the confidence that the outing will likely be worth it.
So when my friend Jenn suggested we try Platters and Co Restaurant, I checked the location, and it turns out it was only 5 minutes away from me. That alone already made it feel like a good idea.
It was such a spontaneous choice, and it turned out to be a 10/10 experience. I am really glad we did it. From the moment we got there, the first thing I noticed was how calming the space felt. Just a soft, beautiful ambience that somehow immediately slows you down. The kind of place that makes you unconsciously stay longer than you planned to. There was a calmness in the atmosphere that made everything feel unhurried. The lighting, the seating, the background mood, the general flow of the space, all of it contributes to the experience. Platters and Co understood that perfectly.
And we did stay longer than we planned to.
We talked for hours. About growth. About life. About the parts of the year we’re still trying to process. About the things we want to do differently. About the things we learned the hard way. About the moments we laughed loudly, the ones we handled well, and the ones that still make us pause a little when we think about them.
And now to the best part: somehow, food always tastes better when conversations are honest.
What We Ordered: BBQ Wrap, Shawarma Bowl, and Special Salad With Prices (Jan 2026)
BBQ chicken wrap and fries — ₦14,400
Chicken shawarma bowl — ₦13,700
Special salad — ₦15,000
I had the chicken shawarma bowl and honestly? So good. Properly satisfying without feeling too heavy. It was one of those meals that felt balanced in a really nice way. Comforting, flavourful, and just filling enough to make you happy. You know when a meal does exactly what it is supposed to do? That was this.
Jenn’s choice also looked really good, and the special salad had that fresh, colourful kind of energy that makes you feel like someone cared about making it appealing, not just edible. That matters too. When a plate looks considered, you can usually feel that same care in the food itself.
I skipped the mocktails because I’m currently on a sugar break (please clap for me), but I already know that’s the first thing I’m trying the next time I visit.
And yes, there will definitely be a next time. That is really the highest compliment I can give any restaurant: the immediate desire to return.
Platters and Co gave me one of those easy, memorable afternoons that stay with you in a good way. If you are looking for a calm spot to catch up with a friend, sit over good food, and let the conversation run a little longer than planned, Platters and Co is definitely one to keep in mind.
