Can ₦12,000 Really Get Us Lunch in Abuja?
This started as a simple idea.
And turned into a full-blown food adventure.
My friend suggested we try to see if ₦12,000 could actually survive us for lunch in Abuja. We did not overthink it. We simply went with curiosity and hunger. No fancy restaurants. No overpriced menus. Just real food, real prices, and a real challenge to see if we could make it work.
First Stop: Suya (Because It Is Never Optional)
Because honestly, suya is never optional. It is foundational. You do not do an Abuja food adventure without suya. It is part of the experience. It is part of the culture. It is part of the spirit.
We got beef suya for ₦3,000, and from that moment, the day was already looking promising. The meat was fresh. The spice was good. The flavour was right. And that first bite made us feel like we were on the right track.
If you are going, ordering ahead is a smart move because the wait can test your patience. Suya spots can get busy. The line can be long. And if you are not prepared, the wait can feel longer than you expected. Ordering ahead saves time. It saves energy. It saves patience.
Second Stop: Roasted Yam, Plantain, and Street Food
Right outside the plaza, we found another spot with roasted yam, plantain, and assorted street food. That became our next stop. ₦2,500 later, we were already feeling like we were doing something very strategic.
The yam was soft. The plantain was sweet. The street food was flavourful. And together, it felt like a solid second round. We were not just eating. We were building a meal. A meal that felt full. A meal that felt real. A meal that felt like we were doing this challenge right.
The Roasted Turkey We Did Not Buy
At one point, we saw roasted turkey and collectively agreed that some things are for future budget versions of us, so we respectfully kept moving.
That is the thing about budget challenges. You see things you want. You see things you wish you could buy. And then you make the choice to keep moving. The roasted turkey looked good. It looked expensive. It looked like something for a different version of us. And we respected that.
Sometimes the best part of a budget challenge is knowing what to skip.
Fruits for Balance
Then came fruits, because balance.
You cannot do a food adventure without something light. Something fresh. Something that feels like a reset. The fruits were the perfect choice. They were sweet. They were fresh. They were the kind of thing that makes you feel like you are taking care of yourself even while doing a budget challenge.
Dessert: Lemon Cake from Edible Creations
And finally, Edible Creations for lemon cake, because no food experiment is complete without dessert.
The lemon cake was light. It was sweet. It was the perfect ending to the day. It felt like a reward. It felt like a finish line. It felt like we had done the challenge right.
Everything Was Close: A Little Food Trail
Everything was close to each other, which made the whole experience feel more like a little food trail than random stops.
That is the beauty of this challenge. It was not just about eating. It was about walking. About moving. About discovering. About making the whole day feel like an adventure.
By the End: We Built a Story Out of ₦12,000
By the end of it, we did not just eat.
We built a small story out of ₦12,000.
And honestly, it was worth it.
This is the kind of friendship date that reminds you that good experiences do not always need big budgets. Sometimes all you need is curiosity, shared appetite, and the willingness to keep walking.
The Budget Breakdown
Here is what we spent:
- Beef Suya — ₦3,000
- Roasted Yam, Plantain, Street Food — ₦2,500
- Fruits — ₦2,000 (estimated)
- Lemon Cake — ₦2,500 (estimated)
- Total — ₦12,000
We made it. We ate well. We had fun. And we proved that ₦12,000 can really get you lunch in Abuja.
Would You Try This Challenge?
Would you try this challenge?

📍 Yahuza Suya is behind AP Plaza, Wuse 2, Abuja.
This is the kind of day that reminds you that good food does not always need big money. Sometimes it just needs curiosity, shared appetite, and the willingness to keep walking. And that is worth more than the price.
